KSB Compacta technical information![]() Fields of Application Compacta lifting units are used for the disposal of sewage water below the backwash level from toilets, washrooms, showers and bathrooms in private, trade, industrial and public buildings, for example:basement flats bars, basement party rooms and saunas cinemas and theatres department stores and hospitals hotels, restaurants and pubs or schools public buildings joint sewage disposal systems for rows of houses industrial installations Compacta can also be supplied with explosion-proof motors. All single and duplex sets in standard design are shock-proof, standard class RK 0.63/6.3 according to safety factor A 1). They aretherefore suitable for use in public or private shelters multi-functional buildings which in case of an emergency may be used as mass shelters, e.g. basement car parks, subway systems etc., and shelters in military installations In installations in which sewage disposal must not be interrupted, e.g. in basement flats, restaurants and pubs, cinemas etc., a standby pump (duplex pump set UZ) is required according to DIN 1986, Part 1. Medium Handled Domestic sewage, clean and waste water, fibre-containing sewage and faeces. Special materials for handling aggressive media are available on request. Operating Data Q up to 135 m3/h, 37.5 l/s H up to 24 m t up to 35 °C, for max. 5 minutes up to 65 °C Free passages up to 100 mm. Higher characteristic curve values upon request. A Compacta U/UZ unit can be selected on the basis of the above selection charts for sewage quantities from the usual sanitary installations of a building. If constant sewage quantities have to be drained over prolonged periods of time see page 9. Shaft Seals Impeller side: mechanical seal Motor side: mechanical seal (shaft seal ring for Compacta U/UZ 30.1 and U/UZ 40.1) The shaft seal is cooled and lubricated by a liquid chamber fitted inbetween. Compacta UZF 30.1/40.1 Electro-mechanically controlled mini lifting unit designed as duplex pump set, other features as above. Compacta UZF 33.2/36.2/43.2/46.2 Duplex lifting unit ready to be plugged in, two centrifugal pumps with single-vane or free-flow (V) impeller, for automatic alternate, stand-by and peak load switching, with gas- and waterproof plastic tank, fully submersible. Compacta UZF 23.5 to UZF 126.3 Duplex lifting unit ready to be plugged in, two centrifugal pumps with free-flow impeller, for automatic alternate, stand-by and peak load switching, with gas- and water-proof plastic tank, fully submersible. Submersion depth: 2 m l.c. Submersion period: 7 days The units must not be installed in outdoor shafts. All electrical equipment such as socket, CEE plug and alarm transmitter must be installed in a dry location and protected against flooding. Electric Installation All switchgears and control units required for operation of the unit as well as the alarm equipment are included in the scope of supply. They have to be installed in a vented room and protected against flooding. The alarm contact of the units is voltfree and can be connected to a control station. Assembly and Installation DIN 1986 .Drainage Systems for Buildings and Estates. stipulates that waste water produced below the backwash level and rain water from surfaces below the backwash level must be led into the public sewer system by an automatic lifting unit preventing backwash. However, if there is a natural gradient or in rooms of secondary use faeces-containing sewage may only be drained via backflow preventers according to DIN 19 578, Part 1 when the number of users of the unit is small (e.g. single-family houses, also with integrated flats) and if there is a toilet above the backwash level. If the responsible authorities have not determined the backwash level, the backwash level is taken to be at least the street level at the connection point. To prevent backwash from the sewer a check valve and a waste water gate valve must be installed on the discharge side (see accessories). For exceptions see DIN 1986, Part 1, section 7.3 (for discharge lines < DN 80 or if the discharge line volume is smaller than the switching volume of the tank). The suction line has to be equipped with a waste water gate valve as well (see accessories). To provide further safety, the discharge line of the lifting unit must be led above the backwash level (in the form of a pipe loop). In installations where sewage disposal must not be interrupted, a duplex pump set must be installed. The switching volume of the unit should be at least equal to the sewage quantity above the backflow preventer. When installing the unit in a pit leave enough space for inspection and maintenance (see installation plans). Lead the venting pipe out of the roof. If changes of direction are unavoidable, the pipe should be laid with a gradient of at least 1:50. Pipe connections must be provided with sound-proof insulation and have to be flexible. If there is a risk of flooding, a collecting pit (pump sump) with a special drainage pump (e.g. Ama-Drainer) has to be provided. Application Limits The units are suitable for S3 operation (intermittent operation). They ensure disposal of sewage from toilets, bathrooms, wash and shower rooms. In case of installations where a very high sewage quantity has to be drained, for example: - drainage of swimming pools, - drainage of surface water in case of heavy rainfall from garage gateways and yards, - in restaurants at peak times, - in industrial businesses in case of shift change-over the faeces lifting unit must be selected in such way that the QZ : QP values stated in the following table is not exceeded.Rooms for lifting units must be dimensioned so as to ensure that there is a working area of at least 60 cm width and height next to and above all parts to be operated and serviced.
